A team of husband and wife ghost hunters believe they recorded a ghostly voice during a livestream event at Strelley Hall. The South Yorkshire couple have visited haunted places all over the world in pursuit of the paranormal.
They say a spooky voice was heard during an Electronic Voice Phenomenon (EVP) the couple set up in one of the quirky parts of the venue. An EVP picks up voices or sounds that cannot always be heard in the room through background or static noise.
The Georgian castle, paneled halls and dungeons are the only parts of the original castle that remain. Strelley Hall was originally built as a castle around 1200 AD, although much of the castle collapsed in Tudor times.

It is not understood why but an archaeological dig in 2006 showed that there was potentially a huge fire at the end of the medieval period which could have caused damage. Linzi Steer and her husband Lee have been ghost hunting together for years and broadcast their experiences live to more than two million fans on their Facebook page. The Rotheram-based couple visited Strelley Hall over the weekend to see if they could capture anything supernatural.
“We were in the castle hall when my husband captured a voice over Electronic Voice Phenomena (EVP). It was reported that Queen Elizabeth I was seen there and in the cellars as well. These are the medieval parts before they were destroyed and rebuilt. These areas have been preserved and since then there have been reports of ghosts and sightings there,” Linzi said.
She added: “In our video footage my husband set up the EVP with the light on. He was about to turn it off and if you look over his shoulder you can see a white face. We do it every day and we don’t panic easily but it really startled us I saw a very white face but then as Lee moved he left I asked the spirits to sit near of Lee, then this thing appeared next to him.
The couple were shocked by the appearance of the white face in the video footage, but were further frightened when a ghostly voice could clearly be heard over the EVP.
Linzi said: “Lee asked who was with us and a voice said ‘Elizabeth’ and then repeated it a little more angrily: ‘It’s Elizabeth’. You can hear it very clearly and I thought, ‘wow, have we really captured Queen Elizabeth I?'”
The pair attempted to debunk the sighting by investigating the potential for shadows or other reasons for the video and sound. However, they didn’t find an easy answer for either. Lee reported that the doors opened and closed at the same time while other equipment that monitored atmospheric pressure also shut down.
Lee said: “We have a device that senses the air pressure in the room. It’s tripped a few times and it’s one of the hardest devices to trip. It’s really hard to change. air pressure when there’s no one there.”
They also recorded sounds in the dungeon where they felt they had a clear message from a spirit. “We heard a woman humming and it was so clear and so loud. It was so strange that our voice recording picked up something like ‘get out,'” Lee said.
Linzi said: “It was scary, but we do it all the time. I don’t usually tend to be scared, but it came out of nowhere. It’s so weird. We didn’t go there. with the intention of finding Queen Elizabeth, but we left with an open mind, we thought that if we found something, we would.
She added, “It’s not like you see on TV where this could be edited. While we’re live, people are also experimenting with what we’re doing. People know I don’t panic easily, but even I jumped.” Elizabeth I was Queen of England and Ireland from November 17, 1558 until her death in 1603.
