Robert K. Hunter – Monongahela

Robert K. Hunter, 81, of Monongahela, Carroll Township, died Saturday, April 2, 2022 at UPMC Presbyterian Hospital in Pittsburgh. He was born in Charleroi on August 6, 1940, the son of the late Clarence and Emma Hunter. After graduating in 1958 from Monongahela High School, Bob served four years, from 1958 to 1962, in the United States Army. He retired as a well tenderer for Peoples Natural Gas Co. On February 2, 2022 Bob was honored and awarded for being the longest serving member of VFW Post 1409 in Monongahela with 60 years of selfless service and dedication at the club. He was also a member of the Mon-Valley Honor Guard and Firing Squad, American Legion Post 949 in Carroll Township and Ginger Hill Grange 1549. Bob is survived by a son-in-law, John K. Balchik of Madison, Tennessee; and one daughter-in-law, Janet M. Galaski of Monongahela; three step-grandchildren, Brittany M. (Jerod) Smith of Irwin, Jennifer (Dr. Stuart) Simko of Greenville, SC, and Christopher Weschler of Ladson, SC; four step-great-grandchildren, Brielle and Cassidy Smith and Pippa and Carrington Simko; one brother, Richard B. Hunter and his wife Dorothy of Lawrence, Pennsylvania; and two nephews, Phillip Hunter of Bethel Park and Alexander Hunter in Lawrence. He was predeceased by his wife, Margaret Micak Hunter, who died August 15, 2014; and one daughter, Kathleen Balchik-Weschler, who died March 13, 2006. Friends will be received from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, April 6, 2022 at the MARSHALL MARRA FUNERAL HOME, 216 Chess St., Monongahela, 724-258-6767, where services will begin at 9 a.m. Thursday with Deacon Al Poroda officiating. Interment will follow at Alleghenies National Cemetery, Bridgeville, with military honors led by the Mon-Valley Honor Guard and Firing Squad. Memorial contributions may be made in Bob’s name to the Mon-Valley Honor Guard, 438 Alexander St., Monongahela, PA 15063.
