Looking for the elusive console? Here’s where you can buy it today

(The Independent)

Update August 1: The PS5 is in stock at Game, To analyse, curriesthe BT Shop, EE and Argos. He could restock at Very this week. Read on for more information.

Since its launch in 2020, the PlayStation 5 has been ridiculously difficult to pick up. Supply chain issues resulting from the coronavirus pandemic have all but halted production of Sony’s latest games console.

Thankfully, the stock situation has improved dramatically in recent months, with PS5 bundles readily available from at least one retailer since late April, with Game and the BT shop, as well as several independent retailers like The game collection and To analyse lead the charge.

This avalanche of console restocks continued throughout July, and we expect it to remain largely in stock throughout August and into September. But while restocks have become more frequent, buying a console on its own remains a challenge, with retailers preferring to restock bundles rather than the standalone console – those sell out in the blink of an eye. We only started seeing digital console bundles hitting stores last week, but even those have dried up.

If you’re still on the hunt for the elusive PlayStation 5, we’ve got a tip for you: sit back on this live blog and watch your real-time alerts. Our goal is to guarantee you a next-gen machine, whether it’s a bundle, standalone disc or digital edition console, as well as providing you with the details on the best games and accessories to grab with your new console, plus the latest game reviews.

Register your interest in buying a PS5 from Amazon

Looking to buy a standalone PS5 on Amazon? Last week the retailer launched a new invite-only system, which allows people to request an invite to buy the £449.99 console.

If you are invited to purchase the PS5, you will receive an email with a link that is valid for 72 hours. The digital editing console and the Forbidden Horizon West bundle doesn’t seem to have that same invite-only system, so if you’re looking for one, you’ll still have to wait for a drop.

Record time broken. After four months, the PS5 is still in stock at BT Shop, and the retailer offers the cheapest package among all retailers. You can get the PS5 Disc Edition Console with a copy of Forbidden Horizon West for £499.99. But there is a catch if you want one.

You must be a BT Broadband customer to get an access code, otherwise you will not be able to pay. You can try asking around to see if any of your friends are with BT and you don’t mind lending you their code – codes are not linked to account details so they won’t be charged accidentally .
