He was very worried when he realized that the children in our community were going to bed hungry. Passionate about hunting, he decided to donate his deer to help these families. He then encouraged his friends, family and other hunters in his community to do the same. David has been door-to-door in the New Melle area and has started his “In Search of Hunger” campaign. After contacting the Share the Harvest / Operation Food Search program, they were so inspired by his hard work and compassion that they allowed him to join their efforts to enable hunters to donate their deer FREE OF CHARGE to the hunter !!! With the help and support of Dan’s Country Meats and Share the Harvest, they were able to process and deliver 1,500 pounds of game to local pantries that had never received game before.
In 4 years, 19,500 pounds. of pure venison was donated by Hunt for Hunger / Share the Harvest for St. Charles County.
David is 13 out of 8e class attending Francis Howell Middle School. Covid-19 has had a huge impact on all of us and pantries are feeling the pressure. Many people find it difficult to feed their families due to layoffs or job losses. Screening for CWD also had an impact on donations. David, however, is more convinced than ever that we can all make a difference in our community by participating in the Hunt for Hunger / Share the Harvest program. He once again relies on local hunters to come out and enjoy the sport they love and hopefully give back to their communities.
For those who wish to participate, all you need to do is drop your FIELD DRESSED deer at the processor shown below. Remember that there is NO CHARGE for the hunter and let him know it is for the HUNGER HUNT / HARVEST SHARE program. You can also check with your local meat processor. Just be sure to ask them if they participate in the Hunt for Hunger / Share the Harvest program. If you are not a hunter but want to help out, Hunt for Hunger has added another option. Just contact the processor and let them know you would like to donate ground beef. Remember that no amount is too small. It will then be distributed to the region’s pantries with the game.
